DAAC digital contributed to the development of the national portal Climate change, a digital platform dedicated to managing and disseminating information on climate change in the Republic of Moldova. This initiative supports national efforts to adapt to climate change and provides essential data for authorities, specialists, and citizens.

Project objective

The project’s primary objective was to develop an integrated digital platform that centralizes and provides easy access to relevant climate information. The Climate change portal is an essential tool for monitoring and managing climate risks and facilitates informed decision-making in various sectors.

Implemented solution

DAAC digital has designed and implemented a complex technological solution that includes:

  • Integrated GIS system: interactive maps with climatic and bioclimatic indicators, allowing detailed analysis of climatic phenomena at regional level.
  • User-friendly interface: intuitive design that facilitates quick access to information for users with varying levels of expertise.
  • Data integration: collecting and presenting up-to-date meteorological and agro-meteorological data essential for sectors vulnerable to climate change.

Key functionalities

The Climate change portal offers a wide range of services and information, including:

  • Warnings on hazardous hydrometeorological events: updated information for risk prevention and management.
  • Short-term weather forecasts: forecast weather conditions for up to seven days.
  • Climate resource data: detailed information on climatic conditions useful for agriculture and other economic sectors.
  • Agro-meteorological information: data on over-wintering conditions, harvest forecasts and other relevant information for farmers.

Impact of the project

The development of the Climate change portal by DAAC digital has led to an enhancement in Moldova’s ability to effectively address the issues posed by climate change. The platform provides access to vital information that supports decision-making in critical sectors, including agriculture, health, transportation, and energy.

Partners and funding

The project was carried out as part of the initiative “Promoting the national planning process for Moldova’s adaptation to climate change,” implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP Moldova) and funded by the Green Climate Fund. The State Hydrometeorological Service is responsible for managing and continuously updating the portal.
