Hardware Security Standard - PCI PTS 5 expires in April 2026<\/h2><\/div>

Any new ATM installed or relocated after this date must be PCI PTS 6 certified. The standard brings stricter requirements for PIN protection, key encryption and physical tamper resistance. Equipment that remains on PCI PTS 5 does not automatically become illegal, but any change of location or replacement of critical components triggers the obligation to comply with the new standard.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

End of software support - Windows 10 LTSC 2016, October 2026<\/h2><\/div>

Microsoft is withdrawing extended support for this version, widely used on previous-generation ATMs. Without security patches, it increases exposure to vulnerabilities and complicates maintaining compliance with PCI DSS software security requirements. Migrating to Windows 10 LTSC 2019 or 2021 requires testing, validation and, in some cases, hardware upgrades – a process that doesn’t happen overnight.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Card scheme roadmap - Mastercard eliminates magnetic stripe from 2027<\/h2><\/div>

This is not a regulation, but a card scheme product decision with clear impact on the acceptance network. ATMs that don’t support EMV chip and cardless transactions will process a decreasing volume of transactions and raise experience issues for users whose cards no longer have magnetic stripe.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The three changes have different origins but overlapping implementation windows.
